  • GIP owes Rs 14.35 crore in pending bills.
  • There are 8 other industrial units which were announced defaulters.

New Delhi:

In a major crackdown on defaulters, the Noida authority on Thursday cut water and sewer connections to nine industrial units, including two major city malls - The Great India Place (GIP) in sector 38A and Logix City Centre Mall in Sector 32 - owing to non-payment of dues for several years. The NMC hospital located at Noida Sector 30 is also among those business establishments announced defaulters.

While GIP, one of the city’s biggest and most famous shopping malls, owes Rs 14.35 crore in pending bills, both Logix City Center and NMC Hospital have a pending bill of Rs 46 lakh each. The other six industrial units facing action have dues of Rs 18 lakh, Rs 18 lakh, Rs 12 lakh, Rs 21 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh for water and sewer connections together.

As per the media reports, the water and sewer department team reached the GIP at 12 pm yesterday to disconnect the water supply and sewer connection to the mall. "We had warned them and sent notices before initiating action. Our objective is to recover dues," Hindustan Times quoted Ritu Maheshwari, CEO of Noida authority.

"The GIP is the biggest defaulter among all because it has not paid the water and sewer dues since its opening in 2007. The authority kept issuing notices to the GIP management but it never paid its dues. Whenever the authority strictly tried to recover dues, it paid some part of dues and never cleared it. Now the dues amount has increased because the authority imposes 14% interest on the default," said another Noida authority official on the condition of anonymity.

When prodded about the latest development, a spokesperson from GIP management team refused to comment on the issue, while the authorities at the Logix City Centre affirmed that they will clear the dues.

"We will pay the dues on Friday and settle this issue. There was some confusion with regard to the dues. It is almost resolved now and the mall is completely operational," said Shakti Nath CMD of Logix Group. The NMC hospital management, on the other hand, did not respond to the call.
