Farooq Abdullah on Ayodhya Land Dispute: Lord Ram will not help BJP win 2019 elections

New Delhi:

National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Thursday fired a fresh salvo at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and said that God doesn’t vote for political parties in an alleged reference to the ongoing land dispute in Ayodhya.

“They (BJP) think that Lord Ram will win them the 2019 elections. The God will not help them win the elections, it is the people who will vote, neither Lord Ram nor Allah will vote,” said the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Last week, the Supreme Court deferred the Ram-Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute cases to January 2019 and this prompted several reactions from various political parties. The Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi adjourned the matter on the Ayodhya land dispute case till 2019 saying that an urgent hearing in the case was not required.

Several Opposition parties, including the Congress, have accused the BJP of polarising the nation over Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid issue ahead of the upcoming 2019 elections.

The former chief minister and MP has been critical of the BJP and has time and again criticised it.  On boycotting the recently concluded Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah had said in September, “We will not only boycott Panchayat elections but also Lok Sabha and Assembly elections if the Centre doesn’t clear its stand on Article 35A and Article 370.”
