New Delhi:

Former chief minister and National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday said that "coalition culture has failed in the state". Omar strongly pitched for single-party government in Jammu and Kashmir. "I want people of the state to elect a single party government in Jammu and Kashmir, keeping in view the challenges and magnitude of problems faced to the people. The experiment of coalitions has not worked well in the state," he said at a function at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan. Abdullah referred to the massive support and goodwill towards the NC and exuded confidence that the party will give a stable and responsive government.

"In fact, the coalition culture has failed in various parts of the country as well and in a state like Jammu and Kashmir, a stable and strong dispensation was of paramount importance to steer it out of the mess created during the past nearly four years," Abdullah said.

Omar while attacking Mehbooba Mufti said, “I was surprised to hear Mehbooba Mufti during one of her rallies today claiming PM Modi wasted a chance on winning hearts of Kashmiris. You (Mehbooba) would say PM Modi was better than Vajpayee. Have you forgotten how you would say you got whatever you asked for from PM Modi and also got what you didn’t ask for? You would also say Modi would do magic. How could you criticise him (Modi) now? You (PDP president) are actually taking the politics to a new low.”

Referring to Mehbooba’s “garbage” remark, Omar said: “You’re stooping to this level in politics now that those whom you garlanded yesterday have become garbage for you today”.to be filled," he alleged.

He claimed that the people, dejected by the PDP-BJP's misrule during over three years, are yearning for early elections to send out a terse message to the Centre about its misadventure by thrusting an "insensitive" and an "anti-poor government" upon the state.

“Those who left BJP also cited cheating, fraud and lies being thrown to them by the central government during polls,” he said. He said in the 2014 elections, BJP set its target of 44+ seats, but when they got 25, it left the state to fend for itself. Omar also claimed that there is a wave in favour of NC and people are joining the party to be a part of this wave across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
