Kolkata: Fire at Apeejay House building in Park Street; no casualty reported

A major fire broke out at the high-rise Apeejay House building in Kolkata's famous Park Street area on Monday morning. As per the reports, 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot and have been trying to put out the blaze at the Kotak Mahindra office in Apeejay House. 

"Fire breaks out at in a high rise building on Kolkata's park street. 10 fire tenders at the spot," the news agency ANI reported.

According to fire department officials, the incident took place at around 11:15 am and the people in the building were evacuated by 11:45 am. Going by the preliminary reports, no casualties have been reported in the incident so far.

Prima facie, officials suspect that the fire may have started from the server room of one of the offices on the fifth floor but the actual reason behind the accident is yet to be ascertained. Apeejay House, which is adjacent to Park Hotel, houses offices of several multinational companies.

Meanwhile, social media has been flooded with a series of dramatic video footages and pictures, showcasing the black smoke billowing out of several windows of  centrally air-conditioned building. Following the mishap, the Kolkata traffic police has stopped the vehicle movement at the crowded Park Street area.
