In what can be called a plot straight out of a TV soap opera, a Kolkata hospital faced an unusual situation when three men claimed to be father of a baby girl. After several twists and turns, the mother of the child finally spoke about the issue. The family drama that ensued at a hospital in south Kolkata over the weekend is now resolved with the real father uniting with his baby. The mother and the daughter are doing well.
According to a Times of India report, it all began on Saturday when a pregnant woman along with her mother came to the hospital for the delivery of her child. A man also accompanied the mother, daughter duo. He identified himself as the husband of the woman and also deposited the advance for the delivery and other medical procedures. Day later, on Sunday, the woman was admitted into the labour room for the delivery. The TOI report states that in morning, while the ‘husband no. 1’ waited outside, another man came and claimed to be husband of the woman. Soon, a tiff broke out between the two men. Sensing trouble, the hospital authorities told them to go out of the institute.
Later, to restore order, the police was also called in. The officials told the two men to bring some proof of their wedding. Sometime later, the husband no.2, who came to hospital on Sunday brought a proper marriage certificate. While the officials waited for the hospital authorities to give a go ahead to probe the matter, a baby girl was born in the labour room. Even as the cops and the doctors waited for woman’s answer, another man came to the hospital and claimed that he was not the husband but the real father of the child.
At this point, doctors and cops knew that only woman could solve this family drama. According to TOI, the woman regained consciousness on Monday and she said that the man who came to hospital on Sunday was her real husband. The man who accompanied her was in fact her friend. The report doesn’t divulge as to who was the third man. The real husband later said that he got to know about the baby through WhatsApp. He and the woman met at a club and soon they stared dating. He broke up with her after she told him about her pregnancy. Peeved, she filed a police complaint. He was jailed for three months. The TOI report says that later, they got married. But due to stiff opposition from their families, they had started living alone.
