New Delhi:

Uttar Pradesh Minister Satyadev Pachauri tried to play down the Kasganj violence by terming it a minor incident.

"Such minor incidents happen often... everywhere. There is no need to pay much heed," said Pachauri on Saturday when asked about his views on the clashes that erupted on Republic Day in Western Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj town resulting in the death on one person while several others were injured.

Pachauri held district authorities responsible for the incident.

"Officials should have taken strict steps to check lawbreakers before the situation took a turn for the worse," he said.

Violent clashes broke out between two groups during a Trianga Yatra in Kasganj on Republic Day.
