In a recommendation to the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, the Allahabad District Congress Committee has suggested Priyanka Gandhi’s name as a Lok Sabha candidate from Phulpur, sources said on Tuesday.
Phulpur is a constituency from where late Jawahar Lal Nehru, Feroze Gandhi and Indira Gandhi contested in the past.
However, congress leadership says that it may be a cheap publicity stunt as Priyanka has been insisting that she is only limited to Raibareilly and Amethi, reports said.
Earlier on Monday, Congress dismissed speculation that Priyanka Gandhi will campaign only in Amethi and Raebareli and charged the BJP with spreading disinformation on the issue.
Priyanka has campaigned for the party in Amethi and Raebareli till now. Amethi is the constituency of her brother Rahul Gandhi, while Raebareli is of her mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
The 40-year-old will be campaigning all over the country for the first time.
Priyanka has been Congress’s star campaigner in Amethi and Rae Bareli and she has said in the past that she was not at all interested in making an entry into politics.
