Mumbai Gas Leak: BMC Opens Helplines Number For Queries

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a helpline number for any queries and information related to the mysterious gas leak in various parts of Mumbai, starting from Khar till Andheri. People who want to report the leak in there area or need any emergency help can call 1916 to report gas leaks in there area.

"We have recieved complaints from citizens about odour of some unknown gas in eastern and western suburbs. MCGM has mobilized all concerned agencies. 9 fire engines have been mobilized at various places to find out source of leakage. For any queries, please call 1916," BMC tweeted.

According to the reports, the leak was reported in Mumbai's Rashtriya Chemical Fertiliser’s Chembur plant. The BMC, however, said it has no idea about the source of the leak and Mahanagar Gas Limited and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board have been intimated.

"We have intimated Mahanagar Gas Limited and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to check on finding the cause of increased smell. We are alerting other agencies as well," said BMC.

The MGL, however, said that the leak was not originated from its gas piplines and that its emergency team was checking it further. "As of now we know that it is not related to MGL gas pipelines. Our emergency team is further checking and we will update you shortly,” the Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) said in a statement.
