Assam Secretariat, Assembly zone declared 'protected area'

New Delhi:

In a bid to enhance security and regulate the entry of unauthorised persons, the region around Assam Secretariat and Assembly has been declared ‘Protected Area’ by the Kamrup Metropolitan district Guwahati administration with effect from September 18, according to official sources.

“The special precautions were to regulate the entry of unauthorised persons into the area, except the bonafide residents and public servants of the secretariat and other offices attached thereto with or without ammunition, explosives, substances and weapons of any nature, either in vehicles or any means of transport or otherwise”, Virendra Mittal, District Magistrate, Kamrup Metropolitan Guwahati said in his order.

The ‘protected area’ covered by the order are southern side of G S Road starting from Ganeshguri Flyover up to Super Market Police point onward to Last Gate and R P Road up to the entry point to Assembly, besides from Ganesh Mandir up to Ganeshguri chariali.

The order will remain in force until further orders.
