President Ramnath Kovind on Monday appointed R.N. Ravi, Governor of Nagaland to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya. R.N. Ravi, in addition to his own duties, will be discharging the duties in Meghalaya in absence of Tathagata Roy, who is on leave.

The official communique from President of India reads, “The President of India is pleased to appoint Shri R.N. Ravi, Governor of Nagaland to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Shri Tathagata Roy, Governor of Meghalaya.”
R.N. Ravi, a former Kerala cadre IPS officer, was earlier appointed as the centre’s interlocutor for the Naga talks.
Meanwhile, entire Northeast is protesting against the Citizenship bill with internet services suspended in several areas. People have taken to roads to register protest against the new citizenship legislation which has forced the government to lauch crackdown.
Earlier, Tathagata Roy voiced support for the bill and sparked controversy by saying that those who don’t want "divisive democracy" should go to North Korea, the country ruled by dictator Kim Jong-Un.
