Morigaon:

Two poachers, who killed an adult rhino at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam, have been arrested.

The two poachers who were part of an interstate gang and had killed the rhino on Tuesday were arrested from Khuranibori village in an operation by the Forest Protection Force last night, police sources said.

One of them was identified as Mubarak Ali. The rhino was shot dead near the Tamuliduba camp in the sanctuary, but the poachers could not take away its horn.

Three other rhinos were killed earlier this year. The 38.8 sq km sanctuary is located about 30 km east of Guwahati.

It has the densest population of the Great Indian One-horn Rhinoceros in a 16 sq km habitat.
