Surmanjiri Latkar, the NCP and Congress alliance candidate has won the Mayor post in Kolhapur municipal elections. She defeated the candidte Bharatiya Janata Party-Tararani Aghadi candidate Bhagyashri Shteke for the seat. Shiv Sena, who is in discussions with NCP and Congress to form a government in Maharashtra, voted in favour of Latkar.
The elections for 27 Mayor posts in Maharashtra this month. The Mayors and Deputy Mayors were been given a three-month extension due to Assembly elections in the state. The extension period comes to an end on 22 November.
