JMM, Cong alliance in Jharkhand opportunistic, unethical: BJP

BJP on Friday described the alliance between JMM and Congress to form a government in Jharkhand as "opportunistic and unethical" and demanded that fresh elections be held in the state to end stability and establish a stable regime.

"It is an opportunistic and unethical alliance. Reflects no stability. Jharkhand has seen nine governments in the last 12 years. The proposed alliance is outright transactional, lacks credibility and will not last," BJP General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.

JMM had earlier formed a government with BJP and AJSU in this Assembly. However, this government fell when Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who was still a member of the Lok Sabha, voted with the UPA government on a cut motion in 2010.

BJP withdrew support but after a few months both parties again formed a government with Arjun Munda as Chief Minister and the right-wing party as the dominant partner. This government fell after 28 months.

Rudy demanded that the Jharkhand Assembly should be dissolved and fresh elections should be held to pave the way for forming a stable government in the mine-rich state.
