A team of Delhi Police’s special cell on Wednesday busted an international drugs syndicate and recovered party drugs worth over Rs 90 crore. The Police have arrested five members of the syndicate, including an NRI, on charges of alleged drug smuggling. The police said that they all were involved in smuggling of contraband drugs ‘Alprazolam’, Tramadol tablets, Tramadol powder, Ketamine etc, which are known as ‘Party Drugs’ and ‘Meow Meow.
Those arrested have been identified as 33-year-old Sunil Kumar, 25-year-old Lokesh Mehta, 45-year-old Satish Sahu, 43-year-old Neeraj Arora and 45-year-old Rajesh Dutta, a British citizen (45), the police added.
“Drug tablets and contraband drugs were collected from Mumbai and Delhi by the members of this syndicate and exported to London, UK, Nepal and Malaysia,” the police said in a press release.
Kingpins of the syndicate have been identified as Mazhar, a Pak national and Amarjeet Bains both based in London and Jaspreet Singh Dhillon, based in Nepal.
The police have received a tip-off that the international gang was active in the national capital Delhi, Mumbai and other parts of the country. Following the tip-off, the police had put the gang on surveillance and found out that a large consignment would be exported,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
"After we received input that a drug consignment would be handed over to one of the gang members on the intervening night of January 15 and 16 near Bharati College in Janakpuri, a trap was laid at the spot," he said.
He further said that the recovered consignment was supposed to be smuggled to Europe via Sri Lanka and other routes. During the interrogation, the police said, the accused revealed that Kumar and Mehta used to supply narcotics and psychotropic tablets and powder to one Mazhar, a Pakistan national based in UK, through cargo and courier, as per demand.
