A naked and headless body of an unidentified woman was found floating in a water body in Mumbai’s Vasai on Monday night. To ensure that the body remained at the bottom of the lake, it was tied to a gunny bag containing cement. The matter came to light when a passersby saw the body in the Maljipada village of Naigaon (east) around 10.30 pm. Officials with the Valiv police were alerted.
The police said that the victim was in her 20s. Her body was not decomposed which indicated that it was dumped into the lake barely hours before it was noticed and retrieved. A red thread was reportedly found tied on her wrist, meanwhile, the search for the woman's missing head is still underway.
In a similar case, the Delhi Police had found the headless, naked body of a 26-year-old woman was found stuffed in a travel bag near a bus stop in west Delhi’s Janakpuri on April 4. The police suspect that the victim was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in Jankpuri to prevent identification and delay investigation.
A case of murder has been registered at the Janakpuri police station. Several teams have been formed to investigate the case. While one of the teams has been tasked to establish the woman’s identity, the other teams are making efforts to recover the head of the woman.
In March, the Valiv police had found the skeleton of an unidentified woman on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Vasai. Her body was stuffed in a gunny bag and dumped along the highway. However, the case is yet to be solved.
