This home located in Meerut’s posh Ganga Nagar was busy in an impending wedding. The hustle and bustle of the preparations was brutally silenced by a man, who stormed into the house and shot the bride-to-be in head on Monday. The girl died on the spot. All that is left is pool of blood in the room, which was supposed to be decorated for the April 18 wedding. The police have arrested the jilted lover.

The victim has been identified as Darshika Sharma, who was pursuing LLM. Her sister Gunika survived the brutal assault and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. According to the local police, the accused has been identified as one Deepak. Son of Uttar Pradesh Police constable, Deepak’s family was next-door neighbour of the victim. News Nation has learnt that the man had proposed to the girl several time. However, Sharma rejected Deepak’s marriage proposal. Furious over rejection and Darshika’s wedding, Deepak stormed into her house on Monday morning. Armed with a dagger and a pistol, Deepak shot the girl in head, he tried to kill the younger sister also. The younger sister was saved by the alert mother. In the scuffle, Deepak shot Gunika in her foot.

According to the UP Police, Darshika’s father is a well-known taxation lawyer in the city.  

The murder comes at a time when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is claiming about crime-free state. According to latest statistics, UP has reported the highest number of communal incidents for three years. While 155 incidents took place in 2015, the number was 162 the following year. Things got worse in 2017 when 195 incidents were recorded. According to MHA data, UP's Bareilly recorded the highest number of custodial death at 25, followed by Agra (21) and Allahabad (19).

In criminal cases too UP topped. Of the over 30,000 murders registered in the country in 2016, UP had 4,889 cases.

In 2015 and 2014 UP lived up to its gory facts: 4,732 and 5,150 cases of murder registered. Again the highest in the country.
