The probe in the murder case of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of late Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister N D Tiwari, continued to be focused on his wife Apoorva on Tuesday.
Apoorva was interrogated by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for the third consecutive day at her residence.
On Monday, Apoorva, along with her two domestic aides, was taken by police for questioning. She was also questioned on Sunday and Saturday.
Sources that the police are looking at Apoorva as the prime suspect and are collecting evidence to strengthen their case and are close to cracking it.
PTI quoted sources saying that the Crime Branch is waiting for the forensic report to solve the mystery behind Rohit's unnatural death.
Investigators have also collected her DNA samples. Apoorva was made to submit nail and hair samples at the AIIMS. Notably, strangulation marks were found at Rohit’s neck.
India Today quoted sources saying that Rohit and Apoorva did not share a cordial relationship. The couple had a huge fight last month after which Apoorva started staying at her parents’ house. However, she returned home on March 30.
Sources further said that Apoorva had a boyfriend before marrying Rohit and was in touch with him even after she got married.
Refuting rumours that Rohit and Apoorva met in the Supreme Court complex, Ujjawla said that they both had met in Lucknow through a matrimonial website in 2017.
They were seeing each other for a year and later took a break in between. Rohit Shekhar maintained distance from her and said he did not want to marry her, she said.
They were not in touch from January to March, 2018. But on April 2 they came to me and expressed their wish to get married, Ujjwala said.
They also discussed mutual divorce several times and later decided to end their marriage in June, she added.
Ujjwala said Apoorva was also against giving a share of property to son of Rajiv Kumar, a relative and aide of Tiwari.
Apoorva always had issues with Rajiv and his wife, Ujjawla said, adding that reports of Rohit Shekhar having affair with Rajiv's wife is "baseless and false".
"My elder son Siddharth expressed his wish to give a share to Rajiv's son Kartik Raj but Apoorva was disappointed and expressed her displeasure over this," she said.
Rohit died on April 16 under mysterious circumstances.
