Caught On Camera: Robber Strikes ATM Located Just 200 Meters Away From Police Chowki in Lucknow

New Delhi:

A brazen ATM robbery caught on camera in Lucknow has exposed the tall claims made by the Uttar Pradesh Police. What’s worse is that the ATM is located just 200 meters away from the police chowki. Another damning fact is that this is third such robbery in the area. The suspected robber struck the ATM in dead of night. He vandalised the cash tray to steal the money. The incident took place in Lucknow’s Matiyari Chowk Area. The ATM belongs to the DCB bank. Officials at the Chinhat Chowki, which is located just 200 metres away from the TM, were caught unaware.

The incident, which took place in October, comes at a time when the Lucknow Police is carrying out month-long ‘midnight’ operation to curb such crimes. DCB Bank’s ATM official Krishna Kumar Singh has also gave a statement to the local police about the repeated robberies. The 25-second clip shows the suspected robber walking in the ATM at 3:47 am. Dressed in black trouser and striped shirt, the suspect looks for CCTVs and changes the direction of one of the cameras so that his crime is not recorded and there are no proofs. However, his entry in the ATM are clearly visible in the CCTV footage.

Uttar Pradesh has dubious distinction in terms of criminal records. The recent NCRB numbers show disturbing, upward trend of crime against women. According to the NCRB data for 2017, which was released after a delay of more than a year, the maximum cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh (56,011) -- the country's most populated state.

Another category that was topped by UP was overcrowding in jails. Among states, the NCRB report revealed, Uttar Pradesh faced the steepest problem of overcrowding in its jails despite having the highest capacity to accommodate prisoners among all states. This was UP also had the largest number of jail inmates.

Uttar Pradesh has a total of 70 jails, which together can house 58,400 prisoners, contributing 14.9 per cent of the total capacity of Indian jail to accommodate prisoners.
