New Delhi:

In a sensational case, five dead bodies were discovered from a house in Delhi’s Bhajanpura area on Wednesday. The neighbours alerted the police after noticing unbearable foul stench coming from the house. The bodies were found in a decomposed state. According to DCP, North East, bodies are of husband, wife and three children. Initial probe reveals that the bodies were found from a house located in Bhajanpura's C-Block. The family had moved in the house recently. The victims have been identified as Shambhunath (43), Sunita (38), daughter Kavita (16) and two sons. the house was locked from outside. The police had to break the lock to enter the house.

The police saw the macabre site of bodies lying in decomposed state. The police have launched the probe and looking at all angles. It is too early to say whether they family was murdered or was it a case of mass suicide.

The National Capital was stunned by the mass suicide in Burari in 2018. In that case, 11 members of a family allegedly committed suicide. Many reports suggested that the Chandawat family of Delhi's Burari area were under some influence and they were preforming some black magic ritual.

However, the probe by the Delhi Police has pointed out the ritual gone wrong theory. According to the police, the family members never intended to end their lives. They were performing a ritual also known as 'badh pooja', in which, members tied themselves with the iron mesh in the house. The probe has also ruled out any foul play or the theory that Lalit, one of the sons, killed everyone and then committed suicide.

The policing in Delhi has been an issue of concern. In the recently-released NCRB data, more people were killed in Delhi during robberies in 2017 and 2018 than in all other 18 cities. An average of 80 murders, 289 kidnappings, and 91 rapes were reported every single day across the country in 2018, according to the latest data by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). “Moreover, the number of murders during robberies in the national capital went up by 300% from 2016 to 2018, a period in which the Delhi Police’s data shows a decline in robbery cases by 48%,” an HT report said.

On national level, altogether, 50,74,634 cognizable crimes comprising 31,32,954 Indian Penal Code (IPC) crimes and 19,41,680 Special and Local Laws (SLL) crimes were registered in 2018, up from 50,07,044 in 2017, the data stated.
