Mohammed Sajid, who moved with his family to Gurugram from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat fifteen years ago, is now thinking of moving out of the city, according to a report in The Indian Express.

On Thursday, a mob of around 40 men had barged into his home and attacked him and his family batons, swords, iron rods, water pipes and hockey sticks, while telling them to “go to Pakistan”.

The police have nabbed six people on the basis of video footage shot by one of the family members from third floor of the building, but local police officially arrested one of them, identified as Mahesh Kumar.

“We are planning to either move back to our village or to Delhi. If this has happened here once, it can happen again. Even if something like this happens in our village, at least we will have 15-20 people who will stand by us. We are entirely alone here,” Sajid was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.

The report cited Dilshad, who lives in Badshahpur and sustained a fracture in the left arm, saying that violence was unprovoked.

“There are people who are saying we must have said something to them, which is not true. We can’t pick a fight with such men — they are more powerful, they have more land. We are poor and have small houses, how can we fight them?” he said.

He further revealed that while his son hid under the bed, the attackers slapped his four-year-old niece and grabbed his one-year-old niece and three her on the bed.

According to a victim, Shahid, six to seven drunk people asked his my family members not to play cricket on the street.

When the family continued to play cricket, the assailants were joined by over 40 youths who attacked the family with batons, iron rods, hockey sticks, and water pipes.

In a bid to save themselves, the victims rushed into their house but some of the attackers managed to barge in and beat them. The ones who didn't enter pelted stones at the house. They attacked Shahid with sticks and iron rods until he lost consciousness.

The attack was captured on cellphone by one of the victims. The video clip purportedly showed women family members pleading for mercy while Shahid was being thrashed.

The victim family claimed the police took about 40 minutes to come to their rescue, though they kept calling on the help number. By then, the attackers had escaped, they claimed.
