The murder of Howrah-based gangster Rammurti Dewar alias Ramua is taking new twists and turns with each passing day. A day after the Khardah police arrested the gangster's wife and 22-year-old son for plotting his murder, another man was arrested on Sunday. The mother-son duo reportedly told the police their lives were made miserable by the gangster and that they roped in three of Sandip’s friends to execute the murder. With this latest development, the total number of arrests, in this case, has risen to six as of yet.
Dewar's 42-year-old wife Kajal, their son Samir and Samir's friends namely Prashant K Singh, Vishal Menon, and Shyamsundar Rao were arrested by Khardah police last week. The man arrested on Sunday is believed to be Kajal’s paramour, Kartik Jadav. He is an insurance agent by profession from Howrah's Shibpur, Jadav is believed to have hatched the plan to murder the 47-year-old gangster.
Kajal and Jadav met in 2015 when Ramua was in jail. Dewar and Kajal's son Samir also knew about his mother's illicit relationship but kept didn’t disclose any to Ramua since he, like his mother, was fed up of his father's abusive behaviour. Deciding to take matters into their own hands, Samir, Kajal, and Jadav conspired to get Dewar killed.
The police said that Jadav hired three of Samir's friends to execute the crime. The trio demanded Rs 4 lakh but Jadhav paid them only Rs 1 lakh.
On the night of January 13, Samir left the door of his father's third-floor apartment at Sodepur's Amrabati open while Kajal gave the killers her husband's revolver. The three boys hired for the job then shot Dewar twice with his own weapon and fled the spot.
Gangster Ramua was declared dead at Panihati hospital on January 14 after Kajal and Sandip took him there from the Sodepur flat, where two bullets were pumped into him, one in his head and the other, chest.
DCP Zone II of Barrackpore Police Ananda Roy said as reported by TOI, “We found several inconsistencies in the mother and son’s statements. Sleuths said they knew Ramua carried a revolver, but the Kajal and Sandip pleaded ignorance a”bout it. After the cops found the revolver in the flat on Friday, the two broke down and confessed to the crime.”
Kajal and Sandip were remanded in police custody for 10 days by a Barasat court on Saturday, while Jadav, Singh, Menon, and Rao have been remanded to police custody for nine days.
