A 35-year-old man jumped to death from the terrace of four-storeyed building in Shahdara's Jagatpuri area of Delhi because he was unable to pay his credit card bills. The man, identified as Suresh Kumar, had jumped along with his minor daughter but she survived as her fall was cushioned by a two-wheeler parked outside the building.
His wife, Manjeet Kaur, was following him and when she saw it, she also jumped off the terrace, they added.
31-year-old Manjeet and her four-year-old daughter is undergoing treatment at GTB Hospital, Meghna Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara), said.
In her statement to police, Kaur said her husband was under stress he had taken loan of Rs 8 lakh on different credit cards of banks and they kept calling and texting him everyday to pay the amount.
Police was informed by the family's neighbours after they saw the trio lying on the road.
When Kaur jumped from the terrace, she hit an electric wire which broke her momentum and due to which she received minor injuries, a senior police officer said.
According to police, Kumar was working in a private company in Gurgaon.
The family lived on the ground floor of the building. The house belongs to Kaur's father, who lives in Punjab, they said. A case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) has been registered, police said.
