Unhappy Over Love Affair, Mumbai Woman Kills Daughter With Dupatta

Angry over her love affair, a 40-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 23-year-old daughter in south Mumbai’s Pydhonie area. The woman, who has been identified as one Pappu Waghela, later went to the nearby police station and confessed to the cops about the murder. The accused used a dupatta to strangle her daughter Nirmala to death on Sunday night. The victim was packing her bags and was about to elope with the man she loved when her mother stopped her and started confronting her. When the daughter refused to listen to her and said that she will not end the relationship, the accused in a fit of rage, took a dupatta and strangled her daughter in the room.

“On Sunday, Nirmala was packing her clothes to elope with her boyfriend when her mother stopped her. They argued and Wadhela strangled Nirmala to death with her dupatta. She then approached the police and confessed to the crime,” a police officer was quoted as saying. Both the mother and her son have been arrested and a case has been filed against them under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Latest NCRB data showed that 593 cases under the head of ‘offences against the state’ were registered in Maharashtra from 2015 to 2017. The number of crimes committed against women have increased in 2017 by 6% compared to 2016 and by 9% compared to 2015.

Among metropolitan cities, Hyderabad accounted for among the crime rates of 2.7% of the overall national figure. The national capital maintained its record as crime capital with 40.4% of the crimes in metros occurring in the city. Bengaluru with 8.9%, Mumbai with 7.2%, and Chennai with 3.6% contributed significantly to the crime statistics in the metros.
