CBSE Introduces Applied Mathematics Subject For Class 11 Students From the Academic Session 2020-21

CBSE is going to introduce Applied Mathematics as an elective subject for class 11 students from the academic session 2020-21. According to the official notification released by Central Board of Secondary Education, the present concept of Basic Mathematics and Standard Mathematics at class 10th level gels well with Science subjects at higher level but is not in line with another subjects such as Arts and Commerce. Therefore, CBSE has taken the decision to introduce Applied Mathematics as an elective subject to match the requirement of Commerce and Arts students at senior secondary level.

CBSE Introduces Applied Mathematics for Class 11 Students

The subject of Applied Mathematics can be opted by Class 11 science students who want to pursue their higher studies in the disciplines of engineering and other allied streams. In addition, the Applied Mathematics subject can also be chosen by Class 11 students of Commerce and Arts stream for skill-based learning.

It is to note that students who have opted for Basic Mathematics at class 10 level can opt for Applied Mathematics at class 11 level. However, students who have applied for Basic Mathematics at Class 10 level are not allowed to take Standard Mathematics at Class 11. The reason behind introducing the Applied Mathematics subject at Class 11 level is to build logical reasoning, analytical reasoning and quantitative aptitude skills of Arts and Commerce students. As application of mathematics is required at every point of time, the introduction of Applied Mathematics subject will boost the analytical and reasoning skills of pure science students and students Arts and Commerce students as well.

Differencen between Basic, Standard and Applied Mathematics

Now, Applied Mathematics as an elective subject at Class 11 level is specifically introduced for those students who opted for Basic Mathematics at class 10 level. As application of mathematics is required at point of time no matter if a student chooses Science, Arts or Commerce, therefore to keep Arts and Commerce students abreast of latest mathematical trends, this subject of Applied Mathematics is introduced.
