CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 Board examinations started on February 21 and 15 respectively and in taking place smoothly without reports of paper leak that marred the examination last year.
But a recent report published by an NGO has a shocker element. The pass percentage of class 10 fell from 92.44 per cent in 2016-17 to 68.9 per cent in 2017-18 for the government schools in Delhi after the CBSE board examination was reintroduced.
The report has raised concerns over the quality of education in CBSE schools in the state even when education was the topmost priority for the AAP government. It also highlighted that around 40 per cent of AAP MLAs did not raise a single issue on education between March 2017 to January 2018.
“Pass percentage of class 10 fell from 92.44 per cent in 2016-17 to 68.90 in 2017-18 for state government schools after CBSE board examination pattern was reintroduced,” it said.
The report titled State of School Education in Delhi’ by Praja Foundation, an NGO working in the sector.
“The enrolment and pass-out data shows an absolute failure pass-out data shows an absolute failure of the Patrachar scheme. In 2017-18, only 2,830 students (2% of the students who dropped out of government schools) registered for Class X" said Nitai Mehta, founder and managing trustee of Praja Foundation.
The Ptrachar scheme helps school dropouts of Classes 8 and 9 to apply for the Class 10 board exam through correspondence.
