New Delhi:

On first day of the Karnataka SSLC Board examination the question paper of first language Kannada was leaked on Whatsapp 30 minutes before the exams ended. However, the officials said that it was not a leak as the question paper was in public with only 30 minutes to go for the day’s exam to end.

According to the officials of the Karnataka SSLC Board, candidates can leave the examination hall only after the first hour of the exam but must surrender their question paper to the supervisor before leaving.

The first language Kannada, Urdu, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, English and Sanskrit examination were held on the first day of the commencement of the board examination. Around 7,64,697 students appeared for the exams, out of which 24, 899 students didn’t turn up for the exam.

Speaking to media, Sumangala V, director, Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) said, “It was brought to the notice of the department that the images of the question paper were being circulated through WhatsApp in Raichur district around 12 noon. It appears to have been done by some miscreants to create confusion among the students. The question paper might have been taking out by some students who left the centre before the completion of the examination or somebody may have unauthorizedly obtained a copy of the question paper.”

Sumangala V. also went ahead to say that the Raichur incident cannot be treated as a question paper leak. She said, “The question paper was not seen in social media before the commencement of the examination since it was around 12 noon. Hence it is not a leak, but malpractice.” She also went on to clarify, ''It is nothing but a nuisance created by social media. A student who may have left the exam hall at 12 noon may have walked out with the question paper. We do not know who uploaded the question paper a student, parent or public. A complaint has been registered. Henceforth we have instructed the DDI’s to make sure that no student takes away the question paper till the completion of the exam.''

According to Section 115 (A), a minimum punishment of 3 years and a minimum penalty of 5 Lakhs can be levied on the culprit. As per reports, the students involved were private students.
