New Delhi:

Hundreds of Karnataka students who had missed their National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) due to an hour of train delay on Sunday, will get another chance to write their examination, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Monday. The exams for those candidates will be held on May 20, 2019 between 10:00 and and 1:00 pm. The centres of the examination will remain the same and the revised Admit Cards are expected to be issued shortly. The prestigious medical examination for admission to various medical colleges across India was originally slated for Sunday, May 5, 2019.

Taking to twitter Javadekar wrote, "Happy to announce that Karnataka Students who missed NEET exam due to railway delay will get another chance".

Over 500 students from Karnataka had missed their NEET examination on Sunday as their train reached Bengaluru an hour late than the scheduled reporting time.

The examination was also cancelled in Odisha in the wake of Cyclone Fani which left a trail of destruction in the coastal state. A part of the roof of a building at AIIMS Bhubaneswar was also ripped off in the cyclonic storm, but all students, staff and patients were learnt to be safe.

The NEET examination for those of Odisha candidates will be also held on May 20 along with Karnataka.

Javadekar's announcement comes after National Testing Agency, the NEET conducting body, on Monday released a notification, giving its nod to postpone the exam till further notice.

In a statement, the NTA said, "On request of the state government of Odisha, in wake of Fani cyclone the exam for candidates whose centre was in the state was postponed till further notice. It will now be conducted on May 20". "The centres for the exam will remain same as announced earlier," it added.
