The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a plea by a group of students claiming that four questions of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2019 were out of NCERT syllabus and, hence, were wrongly set. The top court has fixed the case for hearing on Friday i.e. June 14, 2019, after the lawyer, appearing for the students mentioned the matter for urgent listing.

In the meantime, several states, including Tamil Nadu have been seeking to scrap the NEET, alleging that the national level entrance examination was against social justice and equality and, therefore, destroying the medical education dreams of lakhs of students.

The protest comes in the wake of three girls committing suicide allegedly over failing to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test, which has led to an outrage across the southern state. Three girls - one each from Tirupur, Coimbatore and Villupuram districts - had committed suicide earlier this week, allegedly over failing to clear the NEET.
The protesters are of the opinion that the examination is majorly cracked by the students from the CBSE background while their counterparts from the state boards find it difficult to qualify the same. They alleged that students who cannot afford private coaching classes are not able to clear the NEET examination since the question paper is totally based on the CBSE syllabus.
Amid this raging controversy, the NTA had on June 5 declared the NEET UG 2019 results. As many as 7,95,031 Indians, along with 315 foreign nationals, 1,209 NRIs, 441 candidates holding OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards and 46 PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin) cleared the examination. Delhi had the highest percentage of candidates clearing the exam at 74.92, followed by Haryana (73.41) and Chandigarh (73.24). Nagaland had the lowest pass percentage at 34.52.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted by the NTA for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in the medical and dental colleges approved by the Medical Council of India and the Dental Council of India respectively.
