UPSC Civil Service Prelims Exam 2019 today, last minute tips and reminders

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is all set to conduct the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2019 on Sunday i.e. June 2, 2019. The prestigious national level examination will be held for as many as 10 lakh graduates at various examination centres spread across 72 cities all over India. Earlier, the UPSC had made the e-Admit Cards available on its official website which is upsc.gov.in. The candidates must note that they will have to produce the printout of their e-Admit Card in order to be allowed in their respective examination centres.

Besides, the aspirants need to carry along an original photo identity card, the one which is mentioned in the e-Admit Card, for appearing at each Session of the Examination.

The candidates, whose photograph is not clear/visible in the e-Admit Card or his/her signature appears in place of the photograph, are instructed to carry two photographs on the examination day. They would be allowed to appear at the Examination along with Photo ID Card, after giving an undertaking, which is available with the Examination functionaries at the Venue.

Last minute instructions:

  • The candidates who are yet to download their UPSC e-Admit card 2019, are advised to do the same in order to avoid the last minute rush.
  • Candidates much reach the venue 10 minutes before the scheduled commencement of the examination.
  • For the Forenoon Session, the examination will be held between 9:30 am and 2:30 pm.
  • For the Afternoon Session the UPSC will conduct the examination from 2:30 pm.
  • Candidates are also advised to visit their allotted Venue, at-least one day before the scheduled date of the Examination to avoid any confusion/problem in reaching the centre.
  • Aspirants will be allowed to fill the OMR Answer Sheets and Attendance List with Black Ball Point Pen only.
  • The candidates are required to enter the Examination Venue well in time for frisking.
  • While extering the examination hall, candidate should not carry any mobile phone (even in switched off mode), pager or any electronic equipment or programmable device or storage media like pen drive, smart watches, camera, Bluetooth devices or any other equipment or related accessories.
  • However, students are allowd to wear simple or normal wrist watches during the examination.
  • Valuable/costly items and bags are also not allowed inside the Examination Venue.

UPSC Exam Pattern:

The preliminary exam comprises General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II, which carrues 200 marks each. The latter will have a 33 percent qualifying marks. Candidates who will qualify the preliminary exam are eligible to appear for the main exam and interview.

Mains exam will have two qualifying papers: Paper A – one Indian language, Paper B – English, each of 300 marks. Then there will be papers to be counted for merit: Paper I – Essay, Paper II – GS I (Indian Culture and Heritage, World History Geography and Society), Paper III – GS II (Constitution, Governance, International relations, Polity, Social Justice), Paper IV – GS III (Bio-diversity, Disaster Management, Economic Development, Environment, Security, Technology), Paper V – GS IV (Aptitude, Ethics, Integrity), Paper VI – Optional Subject Paper 1, Paper VII – Optional Subject Paper 2; each of 250 marks.

Thus, the sub-total of written tests in mains exam is of 1750 marks. After that, there is a personality test of 275 marks. Thus, bringing the grand total to 2025 marks.
