Central Bureau of Secondary Examination has admitted to a huge error in marks totalling in class 12 board examination 2017. According to a report, an unprecedented number of students have applied for verification following sharp discripencies between marks in one subject as compared to their average.
One of the Delhi students, who score above 90 in all her subjects was horrified when she learnt to have scored mere 68 in mathematics, a report said.
Times of India reported that a CBSE official admitted that the number of applications for verification of marks has been unprecedented, although he didn't reveal the exact number. CBSE currently only allows verification while re-evaluation is possible only after a court order.

Another student, who had scored equally well in English, Business Studies and Fine Arts got a setback when she scored 42 in maths.
However, after the two students applied to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for reevaluation of their marks, their score went up to in 90s. Mohammad Affan, a Mumbai student who scored 80% and above in all his subjects, scored just 50 in maths. After verification, his marks were revised to 90. Another economics student who was 'failed' with 9 marks finally ended up with 45.
As per the report, a senior CBSE official admitted that there were mistakes in the totalling process and that the difference could be due to various reasons - detachment of supplementary answer books being one.
The result for the Senior School Certificate Examinations (Class 12) was declared on May 29.

Last week, the Orissa High Court asked the CBSE to re-evaluate the answer sheets of at least 159 more students, who approached the court alleging discrepancies in their class XII results.
Whereas the Delhi High Court orally observed that the CBSE ought not have done away with its re-evaluation policy as it also make mistakes in evaluation of answer sheets.
