The central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a notice denying that it had deleted 5 chapters from Class 10 Social science syllabus. In the official notification released by the board, CBSE states that 'no chapters have been deleted from the syllabus of Social Science Class X by the Board.
The board sent the official notification after the news was printed in various newspapers, alleging that a few chapters such as Challenges to Democracy, Democracy and Diversity, Political Struggles and Movements, Forest and Wildlife and Water Resources were removed. CBSE has pointed out that it has been receiving recommendations from various stakeholders regarding the ‘extensive curriculum’ of social sciences.
With History, Geography, Political Science and Economics, the syllabus was too voluminous for students.Due to the recommendation, the board has decided to implement a new system of assessment. In the press note released by the board, CBSE writes, ''The Committee of Courses of Social Science recommended assessing these chapters under the new system of strengthened school-based assessment in consonance with the overall spirit of the board’s circular of 6th March 2019 which focuses on how CBSE intends to strengthen its evaluation process including the school based/internal assessment, in order to augment the skill set being acquired by the students.''
