New Delhi:

Students of School of Open Learning have gone on hunger strike to protest against Delhi University in regard to the decision of introducing Choice Based Credit System from this academic session. According to the students, the credit system rule was introduced without any prior information and students were not kept in loop regarding the progress of this system.

Students protesting against the new credit system have issued a statement that says that until now 1.5 lakh students have already enrolled to the annual mode but the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University is insisting on introducing the Choice Based Credit System without willing to discuss the matter with students. Other than this, there is no new study material prescribed for the Choice Based Credit System, and the old study material is being distributed.

Ramesh Bhardwaj, Officer of Special Duty, said that the introducing the Choice Based Credit System is an important step to make sure that the SOL degree doesn’t lose its validity over time. He further said that a university cannot run two separate modes at the same time. In the case the university doesn’t switch over to the new system, the degrees would not be recognized. In addition, the authorities are working with students to ensure they get the PDFs of the new study material soon.

Earlier this week, the Delhi University Executive Council meeting was held to discuss the implementation of Semester System for SOL and the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB).
