The National Medical Commission Bill has proposed a single exit entrance test for Final MBBS exam and that will work as a licensed examination, which will also include a screening test for foreign medical graduates and an entrance exam for admission to PG Medical programs. It is to note that on October 14, National Medical Commission members will be chosen from the Medical Advisory Council by draw of lots, said Additional Secretary Arun Singhal, Health Ministry. He further said that the guidelines will direct the state governments in order to fix college fees for 50 percent seats.
Earlier in August, The National Medical Commission (NMC) bill was passed by Rajya Sabha that seeks to revamp the existing medical education regulation infrastructure. The bill has proposed a single exit exam for undergraduate medical programs, i.e. final MBBS exam. This will work as a licentiate exam including a screening test and entrance test for foreign medical graduates and PG programmes respectively. According to the bill, there will be one MBBS Entrance exam across the country.
At present, the students who wish to secure a seat in postgraduate medical colleges in India have to qualify the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).
