New Delhi:

In the wake of Congress’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha Elections, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lalchand Kataria on Sunday announced his resignation.

Kataria has tendered his resignation owning moral responsibility for the party's poor show in Lok Sabha Elections in the state.

According to reports, he has sent his resignation to Governor Kalyan Singh through Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Kataria took this decision after his party got very few votes in the area.

"I have taken moral responsibility for party's defeat in the area and it should not be linked to any other reason," Kataria said

Katari also said he will continue to raise issues of the common man of his Assembly. There are 25 seats in the state and the Congress party failed to won even a single seat. The Bharati Janata Party (BJP), which was recently ousted from power by the Congress in the state, won 24 seats and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party managed to grab 1 seat.

Several Congress leaders have offered to resign in the wake of Lok Sabha poll debacle. Among these people are Uttar Pradesh Congress committee chief Raj Babbar, President of the Odisha Pradesh Congress committee, Niranjan Patnaik and Karnataka Congress Campaign Committee President, HK Patil.

Earlier on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi offered to resign as Congress president, which the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously rejected and authorised him to overhaul and restructure the party at all levels.

Congress stalwarts, including party general secretaries, chief ministers and former ministers, unanimously rejected his offer to resign and reposed faith in his leadership.

The CWC asked him to continue as party chief and carry out an overhaul of the party at all levels and asked him to rejuvenate it, passing a resolution in this regard.
