Having nose like grandmother does not ensure power: Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya

New Delhi:

BJP leader and Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday attacked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by saying, “If you get power by having a nose like your grandmother, then won’t there be a president in every household in China?” Mandaviya was speaking at the party’s ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally at Anand in Gujarat.

Mandiya didn’t stop before saying, “It is being talked about in the Congress that she (Priyanka) has the nose like her grandmother (Indira),” Mandaviya said.

Many leaders of Congress had openly said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reminded them of her late grandmother. Vadra, who is the Congress’s incharge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, had reportedly said she was often likened with Indira Gandhi because people loved the former prime minister.

Last month, another BJP MP Harish Dwivedi had made a personal comment on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Dwivedi had said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wears “jeans and top” in Delhi and “saree and sindoor (vermilion)” when she is on an election campaign.

Meanwhile, the AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh East will start the second leg of her campaigning in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

She will reach Lucknow by air on Wednesday morning from where she will travel by road to visit her brother and party President Rahul Gandhi's constituency Amethi, according to party leaders.

In Amethi, she will interact with the party's booth-level presidents -- who number 1,965 -- at the AH Inter College in Musafirkhana.

After this meeting, she will leave for Sonia Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency Raebareli. From there, she will reach Ayodhya on Friday before returning to New Delhi. Her earlier plan had her beginning her visit from Ayodhya on Wednesday.

The party has planned a 50-km roadshow in Faizabad-Ayodhya on Friday, during which she is expected to address two meetings, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Rajendra Pratap Singh said.

She will stop at over 30 other points during the road show, interacting with people, according to the schedule worked out so far.
