BJP repeats Ram Temple promise in 2019 manifesto, Uniform Civil Code, pension for small traders among other key features

Just three days before the Lok Sabha elections 2019 starts, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday released its much-awaited manifesto. The BJP, whose election campaign is centered around nationalism and Hindutva, has made 75 promises to celebrate the 75th Independence Day. The BJP has once again repeated its 2014 promise to build a mega Ram Temple in a conducive environment. The BJP has titled its manifesto ‘Sankalp Patra’ and it was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah along with other members of the party’s Parliamentary board members.

What is the status of BJP's some of the big promises made in 2014 manifesto?

Promise: 33 per cent reservation for women through a constitutional amendment.

Status: The promise still remains a distant dream even after the Congress president Rahul Gandhi announced unconditional support in Parliament.

Promise: Bring back black money in 100 days.

Status: The promise remains fulfilled. Although the BJP announced demonetisation to end the black money in 50 days, the move did very little to address the issue.

Promise: 1 crore jobs every year.

Status: One of the biggest failure of the Narendra Modi government. Unemployment rose to the highest since last 45 years, according to a National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) report withheld by the government.

Promise: Smart cities

Status: Visible to all. Not delivered.

Promise: Construction of a grand Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

Status: Not built, promise still remains unfulfilled.

What may features in BJP's manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha elections:

Nationalism: BJP's campaign for 2019 Lok Sabha elections is centered around nationalism and development was less talked about issue during the rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. So, the party may bring policy on national security.

Ram Temple: One of the many promises of 2014, the BJP failed to fulfill, Ram Temple issue may once again feature in the BJP's manifesto for 2019 elections to woo Hindu voters.

Terrorism: The BJP is selling itself among the masses by using the surgical strike and Balakot strike against terror outfits in Pakistan. The party may include a zero tolerance policy on terrorism in its manifesto.

Agriculture: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already promised to double farmer's income by 2022. The BJP is very likely to include this in its manifesto.
