‘Burning files not going to save you’: Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi after fire at Shastri Bhawan

Congress president Rahul Gandhi took a dig Minister Narendra Modi for after a fire broke at Delhi’s Shastri Bhawan on Tuesday, warning that “burning files is not going to save you”. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi said: “Modi ji burning files is not going to save you. Your day of judgement is coming. Your day of judgement is coming.”

Gandhi's tweeted hours after a fire broke out at Shastri Bhawan. Shastri Bhawan houses Ministries of Law, Information and Broadcasting, Corporate Affairs, Chemicals and Petrochemicals, and Human Resources Development.

The fire, which broke out on the seventh floor, was extinguished within a few minutes by the fire tenders. No casualty was reported in the incident. Earlier, a fire had broken out at the Shastri Bhawan after a short circuit in an air-conditioning unit. Before this, a fire broke out on the same floor in 2014.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed the Centre to file response by May 4 to the petitions seeking review of last December's verdict by which the apex court had dismissed the pleas challenging India's deal to procure 36 Rafale fighter jets from France.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi did not allow the plea of the Centre that it be granted four weeks time to file its response to the pleas.

It asked it to submit the response latest by Saturday. The bench, which also comprised Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph, has fixed May 6 for hearing the petitions.
