New Delhi:

In a big relief to Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday gave clean chit to the father-son duo in connection with a disproportionate assets case, reported ANI news agency. In an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the CBI said that no evidence was found against the Samajwadi Party leaders to register a Regular Case (RC).

The central probe agency filed the affidavit after the Supreme Court, while hearing a plea, asked it file the status report in the disproportionate assets case against them.

On March 25, 2019, the Supreme Court had directed the CBI to file a status report within two weeks. "There was a status report (of 2007 by CBI) saying that prima facie case is made out. We are entitled to know as to what happened to the investigation," the top court said.

Hearing a fresh plea filed by Congress activist Vishwanath Chaturvedi against Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family, the Supreme Court also issued a notice to the Samajwadi Party patriarch. Responding to the notice, Mulayam Singh had said that the plea was filed to gain political mileage ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections with "mala fide reasons”.

In 2005, Chaturvedi had filed the petition before the Supreme Court seeking CBI action against Mulayam, Akhilesh and his wife Dimple, and younger son Prateek under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly holding assests more than the kown sources of their income.
