New Delhi:

The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL seeking a stay on the release of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic starring Vivek Oberoi.

The plea questioned the time of the film's release and said if it was released as scheduled, it was likely to earn much electoral mileage for PM Modi. The petitioner urged the court to pass orders ensuring the film is not released on April 5 as scheduled.

The Election Commission had, on March 27, sent a notice to the producers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic PM Narendra Modi after the Opposition parties including the Congress and the CPM questioned the timing of the film’s release hinting at a violation of the model code of conduct ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due next month.

The Congress had sought deferment of the film release till the final phase voting in the Lok Sabha polls ie, May 19.

The film is scheduled to release on April 5, just six days ahead of the first phase of polling for the Lok Sabha elections.

On March 20, East Delhi Returning Officer K Mahesh suo motu issued notices to the production house and music company behind the film and two leading newspapers for publishing advertisements of the biopic.
