New Delhi:

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Thursday said that demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST) imposed by the "two-men army" hit the country's economy hard.

It is to be noted that Shatrughan Sinha, former BJP leader who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Patna Sahib on Congress ticket, was campaigning for Sanjay Nirupam and Urmila Matondkar, Congress nominees from Mumbai North West and Mumbai North. Sinha, in his earlier speeches, used to call Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit shah as "two-men army".

While addressing a public rally, the Congress leader said, "Demonetisation and GST by the two-men army hit the country's economy hard." "Demonetisation and GST by the two-men army hit the country's economy hard," he added.

Claiming that no senior BJP leader had inkling about the "dictatorial" decision of demonetisation, the two term Patna Sahib MP said that he was the first leader from within the saffron party to oppose it. "Economy was hit hard due to demonetisation, giving rise to unemployment. GST hit the small traders hard," he stated.

“He joined the BJP as he admired its stalwarts, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, but the "two-men army" completely sidelined Advani and other senior leaders,” Sinha said. "I have always opposed dictatorship, that is why I quit the BJP and joined the Congress," he said, adding that Congress president Rahul Gandhi can give a new direction to the country.

Recently, Shatrughan Sinha’s wife Poonam Sinha joined Samajwadi Party. She is up against Home Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow parliamentary constituency. Lok Sabha elections in Lucknow is scheduled to take place on May 6 along with a total of 51 constituencies across seven states in India. The counting of votes for seven phase Lok Sabha polls will be held on May 23.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rajnath Singh won the Lucknow seat garnering 55.7 per cent of the total 10,06,483 votes polled. He had won in all the five Assembly segments of the constituency.
