The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all the 26 seats in Gujarat - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. While the official announcement was still due, BJP candidates in all the 26 seats in Gujarat were leading with a massive margin. With most of the votes already counted, the results were unlikely to swing in Congress' favour.
BJP president Amit Shah, who had contested from Gandhinagar constituency, was leading with a huge margin of 5,55,843 votes. Shah broke the record of Lal Krishna Advani, who had won the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections by 4,83,120 votes.
In Anand, BJP leader Patel Mitesh Rameshbhai alias Bakabhai was leading with 1,97,980 votes against Congress candidate Bharatsinh Solanki. In Rajkot seat, BJP's Mohan Kundariya was leading by 3,68,407 votes against Congress' Lalit Kagathara.
In Surat, Bharatiya Janata Party's Darshana Vikram Jardosh was ahead of his nearest rival Ashok Patel (Adhevada) of Congress by 5,47,155 votes. In Vadodara, Ranjanben Bhatt of the BJP was leading against Congress' Prashant Patel by 5,75,890 votes. BJP leader Mohanbhai Kundariya defeated Congress candidate Lalit Kagathara in Gujarat's Rajkot by 3,68,407 votes.
Reacting to the massive victory, Gujarat cheif minister Vijay Rupani praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked BJP president Amit Shah, under whose leadership the saffron party created history by winning majority in the second consecutive term. In 2014, BJP had won 282 seats, 10 more than the majority mark of 272 seats, under Rajnath Singh's leadership.
"The National president of world's biggest politicla party, Amit Shah, encouraged lakhs of workers for which I express my gratitude towards him. Under the leadership of Amit Shah, the organisal strength of the BJP has increased. I would like to congratulate Amit Shah for the masive victory," Rupani said in a tweet.
Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who also hails from Gujarat, Rupani said that Modi's wave swept the entire. The Gujarat CM said: "PM Modi enhanced morale of people by annihilating terrorists, enhancing India's glory," he added.
The BJP had won all the 26 seats of Gujarat in 2014 as well. But, after the Congress' party improved performance in the recent Assembly elections, it was expected from the Grand Old Party to end five year's drought and open its account. However, the Rahul Gandhi-led Grand Old Party failed miserbaly and could not win a single seat.
