The BJP is likely to outplay the Congress-led opposition grand alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar and Jharkhand with Narendra Modi continuing to be the popular Prime Minister face in the two states, as per the opinion poll conducted by News Nation. The prediction came along with another striking revelation in which 81 per cent of the respondents (77 in Bihar and 85 in Jharkhand) opined that the airstrikes carried out by the Indian Air Force on terror camps in Pakistan will benefit the Modi government in the polls.

The recent prediction is in contrast with the previous ones, which were held before the dastardly terror attack in Pulwama which claimed lives of 40 CRPF jawans. The airstrike has been seen as the revenge of the attack.

The News Nation Opinion Poll also found that 47 per cent of the respondents want Narendra Modi as the next prime minister. On the other hand, only 20 participants voted for Congress chief Rahul Gandhi while 23 voted for other candidates for the coveted post.

In Bihar, the NDA (an alliance of BJP, JD(U) and LJP) is likely to garner 27 out of the 40 seats, while the UPA (an alliance of Congress, RJD, RLSP and HAM) will be able to win on 12 seats.

Similarly, in Jharkhand, the BJP is expected to outshine the Congress-led 'mahagathbandhan', with the former expected to win 10 seats and the latter just four seats.

The opinion poll, conducted to gauge the voting intention in Bihar and Jharkhand, also questioned people on a serious of issues which are likely to be the deciding factors for the outcome of the much-awaited general elections.

When questioned over what would the prime issues the respondents will consider while going to vote, 24 voted for inflation and an equal number of participants said they will consider unemployment before voting for a party. PM face would be the main consideration for 16 participants, according to the survey.

Here are some other key takewaways from the News Nation Opinion Poll:

  • 52 per cent of the respondents (51 in Bihar and 53 in Jharkhand) said that the Modi government's focus is more on development than politics.
  • In Bihar, 47 per cent of the participants said they are satisfied with the NDA government's performance, while 39 voted against it. Similarly in Jharkhand, 50 per cent respondents said they are content with the governance of the NDA dispensation.

  • Over 58 per cent of the respondents (55 in Bihar and 62 in Jharkhand) said that the BJP's move of 10 per cent quota for the EPS will go in its favour in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
