In Mumbai North, Urmila Matondkar get Hardik Patel’s help to woo Gujarati voters

With an eye on Gujarati voters of Mumbai North parliamentary constituency, Congress has asked Patidar leader Hardik Patel to address a joint rally with its candidate Urmila Matondkar. According to reoprts, the two will hold a joint rally in Andheri on Sunday.

Sources say that while actor-turned-politician Matondkar will attack the Centre over rising instances of intolerance, the Patidar leader will take on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over issues like unemployment.

25-year-old Congress leader was planning to contest from Jamnagar in Gujarat. His plans, however were, foiled after the top court refused to accord an urgent hearing to his plea challenging the Gujarat High Court order which rejected his plea to stay his conviction in the 2015 Vispur rioting case.

He is now fully focusing on campaigning for the grand old party in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

Matondkar recently joined the Congress after meeting party president Rahul Gandhi. After joining the party, the actress had said she felt the need to join the Congress party as the freedom to express was under attack in the country and there are numerous examples in this regard in the last five years.

Matondkar, who is pitted against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gopal Shetty, had said the Congress party has participated in the freedom struggle and it stood for freedom. Gopal Shetty had defeated former Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Mumbai will vote for all Lok Sabha seats in the metropolis on April 29.
