Karnataka Lok Sabha Election Results 2019 Live Updates: Congress's DK Suresh beats BJP's Ashwat Narain

In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) performed extremely well after the return of BS Yeddyurappa in the party fold. The 2014 election in Karnataka was held in a single phase on April 17. The state sends 28 members to the Lok Sabha. The BJP won 17 of these seats whereas the Congress was restricted to just 9 seats in the state. The Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) was successful in the remaining 2 seats (Mandya and Hassan). In 2009, the BJP was successful on 19 seats and the Congress and the JDS won 6 and 3 seats respectively. 

The BJP received 1,33,50,285 votes with a vote share of 43.37 per cent. The Congress garnered 1,26,66,530 votes with a vote share of 41.15 per cent whereas the JDS, known as the third force in the state, got 34,06,465 votes with a vote share of 11.07 per cent. According to our analysis, the BJP was ahead in 132 Assembly segments during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The Congress was leading on 77 and the JDS on 15.

5.46 pm: BJP leader and Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde defeats JDS candidate Anand Asnotikar in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada by 4,79,649 votes.

5.40 pm: BJP's Shivkumar Chanabasappa Udasi defeats Congress candidate DR Patil in Karnataka's Haveri by 1,40,882 votes.

5.34 pm: BJP's BN Bache Gowda defeats Congress leader and former Union minister Veerappa Moily in Karnataka's Chikkballapur by 1,82,110 votes.

5.32 pm: BJP's Ramesh Jigajinagi defeats JD(S) candidate Sunitha Devanand Chavan in Karnataka's Bijapur by 2,58,038 votes.

5.31 pm: BJP's Bhagwanth Khubha defeats Congress candidate Eshwar B. Khandre in Karnataka's Bidar by 1,16,834 votes.

5.19  pm: BJP's Y. Devendrappa defeats Congress candidate VS Ugrappa in Karnataka's Bellary by 55,707 votes.

5.16 PM: Congress candidate DK Suresh defeats BJP's Ashwat Narain in Karnataka's Bangalore Rural by 2,06,870.

2.03 pm: DK Suresh of the Congress has secured over seven lakh votes in Bangalore Rural and he is comfortably in the lead against Ashwathnarayangowda of the BJP

12.30 pm: Sadananda Gowda leads by 78.308 votes.

11.45 am: Deve Gowda is trailing by 9000 votes.

10.15 am: KH Muniyappa from Congress is trailing in Kolar

10.00 am: HD Deva Gowda trails.

9.54 am: The Early trend of 28 seats are out:

BJP 24 seats, Congress 2 seats and JDS 2 seats.

9.48 am: Tejaswi Surya leading with 35,000 votes from Bangalore seats.

7.03 am: Karnataka voted in two phases on April 18 (second phase) and on April 23 (third phase). Polling was held in 14 seats on Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Tumkur, Chamarajnagar, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Bangalore Rural, Udupi-Chikmagalur, Chitradurga, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkballapur in the second phase. The remaining 14 seats of Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Koppal, Bidar, Raichur, Shimoga, Davanagere, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Haveri, Bellary, Chikkodi and Belgaum went for polls in the third phase.

6.21 am: The counting to begin at 8 am.

6.12 am: 91 constituencies went to polls in the first phase on April 11, followed by 97 constituencies in the second phase on April 18. The third phase held on April 23 and fourth on April 29, fifth on May 6, sixth on May 12 and seventh phase on May 19. 115 constituencies went to polls in the third phase, 71 in the fourth phase, 51 in the fifth phase, 59 in the sixth phase and 59 in the seventh phase.
