New Delhi:

With Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Results spelling doom for the Congress, Priyanka Gandhi reached her brother and Grand Old Party chief Rahul Gandhi’s residence in New Delhi on Thursday. News agency ANI tweeted out a photo of Priyanka leaving in her car. The meeting comes amid disastrous outlook for the Congress that showed the United Progressive Alliance leading on just 87 seats. The current leads show the BJP winning around 300 seats on its own. As of 12:42 pm: the NDA is leading on 343 seats. The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections showed BJP breaking record and bettering its 2014 tally of 282.

The verdict is also particularly gloomy for Priyanka, who officially began her political career this year. In what was called the trump card of the Congress, Priyanka was roped in at last moment for the 2019 General Elections. She was given the crucial Uttar Pradesh (East) division that have BJP stalwarts including Narendra Modi himself. From roadshows to mega rallies, Priyanka left no stone unturned. But the early trends that trickled down in morning were not music for the Congress. Despite the intense campaigning by the brother-sister duo, the Congress has not been able to garner enough votes.

On the day her brother Congress president Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had said the constituency was her father's "karmabhoomi" and its land was sacred for her family. Gandhi filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha elections from this constituency with his entire family looking on. His mother Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and brother-in-law Robert Vadra were with him in the Collectorate when he filed his papers. "Some relationships are from the heart. Today, the whole family was present for my brother's nomination. This was my father's 'karmabhoomi', it is sacred land for us," Priyanka Gandhi, who is Congress' general secretary in-charge Uttar Pradesh East, tweeted.

In a direct contest, Rahul Gandhi, a three-term MP, took on Union minister and BJP candidate Smriti Irani with the SP-BSP-RLD alliance taking the decision to not field any candidate from the constituency, seen as a Congress bastion.

However, as per the current trends, Irani is maintaining her leads.
