In Punjab, Congress won eight parliamentary seats in Punjab, bucking the pro-Modi trend seen across northern, central and eastern India

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday led his Bharatiya Janata Party to a super-sized victory for a second term in office, as his message of nationalism, security, Hindu pride and a New India was wholeheartedly embraced by voters across large swathes of the country.

In Punjab, Congress won eight parliamentary seats in Punjab, bucking the pro-Modi trend seen across northern, central and eastern India in this general election. Out of the total 13 seats in the state, Congress romped home to impressive victory, surprising both the SAD-BJP combine and the Aam Aadmi Party and improving its tally from three in 2014 polls. It had won Gurdaspur in a bypoll in 2017.

Jammu and Kashmir

Farooq Abdullah: Three-time chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the Member of Parliament from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency. Abdullah has won with more than 1,00,000 votes with PDP's Aga Syed Mohsin coming in second with around 36,000 votes.

Jitendra Singh: In Udhampur, Union Minister and BJP candidate Jitendra Singh registered a landslide victory over National Conference-Congress joint candidate Vikramaditya Singh. Jitendra Singh bagged 7.1 lakh votes compared to Mr. Vikramaditya Singh’s 3.65 lakh.

Haryana

Rattan Lal Kataria: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rattan Lal Kataria has won the Ambala Lok Sabha (Reserved) seat. Kataria was facing a tough contest with Congress’s Kumari Selja.

Rao Inderjit Singh: Union Minister and sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh Thursday won from the Gurgaon parliamentary constituency defeating his nearest Congress rival Ajay Singh Yadav, a former six-time MLA from Rewari, by a margin of 3,86,256 votes.

Brijendra Singh: BJP candidate Brijendra Singh won the Hisar parliamentary seat defeating his nearest rival and incumbent MP Dushyant Chautala of the JJP by a margin of 3,14,068 votes.

Punjab

Sunny Deol: BJP’s gamble to field Sunny Deol from the Gurdaspur constituency finally paid off with the Bollywood actor winning the seat by defeating Congress heavyweight and sitting MP Sunil Jakhar. Deol, 59, defeated the Punjab Congress chief with a margin of 82,459 votes.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal: Union minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Thursday won from the Bathinda seat, defeating her nearest rival Amrinder Singh Raja Warring of the Congress.

Sukhbir Singh Badal: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader was declared the winner of the Firozpur constituency. He outperformed Sher Singh Ghubaya of the Congress party by a margin of 198850 votes.
