New Delhi:

With stunning 303 seats, the BJP's saffron wave created many records in the just concluded Lok Sabha Elections. These 303 winners include 131 Lok Sabha lawmakers, who are first-timers and include party president Amit Shah. There are many in the list like Pratap Singh Sarangi (Balasore), Tejasvi Surya (Banglore South), Rajdeep Roy Bengali (Silchar), Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato (Purulia) who have emerged from humble backgrounds and have won unexpected victories in the elections. Among the first-timers, most are from Uttar Pradesh (20) where the BJP won 62 of the 80 seats. The BJP also made inroads in parts of India and won a good number of constituencies for the first time. Here's the list of seats across India that went with the saffron surge:

West Bengal: From Alipurduars to Balurghat, from Bangaon to Jhargram, BJP created a record in Mamata Banerjee's home turf. With a haul of 18 seats, the BJP turned the tide in its favour. These are seats won by the BJP for the first time in Trinamool citadel.

Ranaghat: BJP's Jagannath Sarkar trounced Trinamool's Rupali Biswas by 2,33,428 votes.

Odisha: Naveen Patnaik halted the BJP juggernaut both in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Experts feel that it was a split voting in Odisha with voters clearly think on both national and regional outcome. While the BJD won 12 Parliamentary seats, the BJP edged closer to the regional party by winning eight seats. For the BJP, this was a significant gain from the one seat that it won in 2014. Here's the list of seats the BJP won for the first time in Odisha:

Bargarh: The seat went to BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari. Pujari, who trounced his BJD rival and Rajya Sabha member, Prasanna Acharya by a margin of 63,939 votes, overcame formidable odds.

Bhubaneswar: The prestigious seat was won by former IAS officer Aparjita Sarangi. Aparajita polled 4,86,991 votes to defeat BJD candidate and former Mumbai Police commissioner, Arup Patnaik by a margin of over 23,000 votes.

Muniswamy defeated Congress leader KH Muniyappa.

Telangana: It was a shock for the ruling TRS. Before the Lok Sabha polls, the TRS was confident of sweeping the elections in the company of AIMIM led by Hyderabad Lok Sabha member Asaduddin Owaisi. The BJP and the Congress, which faced a humiliating defeat in the Assembly elections held in December 2018, have sprung a surprise in the Lok Sabha polls. The BJP won two seats for the first time:

Nizamabad: The big shocker for the TRS was the defeat of the Chief Minister's daughter K Kavitha in Nizamabad. BJP's Arvind Dharmapuri defeated her. He was polled 4,80,584 votes.

Adilabad: Soyam Bapu Rao polled 3.77 lakh votes which is over 35% of the 10.63 lakh votes cast in the election making it the best ever performance for the party in the constituency since Vishnu Prakash Bajaj polled 1.80 lakh votes (over 24 % of votes polled) in the 1998 Parliamentary election.
