As Many As 91 Constituencies Are Going To Polls In The First Phase Of Voting.

The high-stake political battle to choose the 17th Lok Sabha begins on Thursday with 91 constituencies going to polls in the first phase of voting. Other than Lok Sabha seats, voting for Assembly polls will also be held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and the first phase of Odisha. The polling began at 7 am and continue till 6 pm. Elaborate security arrangements have been made and lakhs of security personnel have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls. 


Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to file his nomination from Lucknow parliamentary constituency on 16 April.

About 64 per cent of voters exercised their franchise till 6 pm Thursday in eight Lok Sabha constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh that went to polls in the first phase.


Polling could not take place at four polling stations of Gadchiroli as the polling teams could not reach there. These are naxal-affected areas. EC will go for re-poll in these four polling stations, says Chief Election Officer Maharashtra. 

Nearly 64% turnout by 6 pm in UP constituencies, reports news agency PTI.

The total seizures in 2019 election so far, till 6 pm, is Rs 2626 crore - cash Rs 607 crore, liquor worth Rs 198 crore, drug and narcotics worth Rs 1091 crore, precious metal worth Rs 486 Crore, freebies and other items worth Rs 48 crore: Election Commission

We have asked district election officer concerned to furnish a report. Indelible ink was certified by CSIR National Physical Lab, as is done for every election: EC on indelible ink removal claims.


There have been some incidents where EVMs have been damaged. 6 incidents in Andhra Pradesh, 5 in Arunachal Pradesh, 1 in Bihar, 2 in Manipur and 1 in West Bengal: Election Commissioner

Voters in great number fearlessly used their franchise in Shyamgiri (in Bastar's Dantewada district) polling station. Turnout was 77% in this polling station.

Sikkim (1 seat) - 69%, Mizoram (1 seat) - 60%, Nagaland (1 seat) - 78%, Manipur (1 seat) - 78.2%, Tripura (1 seat) - 81.8%, Assam (5 seats) - 68%, West Bengal (2 seats) - 81%. Final turnout is expected to rise.

Army troops deployed in Siachen and along the LoC cast their vote.



Voting till 6 pm in Andaman & Nicobar Islands - 70.67%, Andhra Pradesh - 66%, Chhattisgarh - 56%, Telangana - 60%, Uttarakhand - 57.85%, Jammu & Kashmir - 54.49%. Final turnout is expected to rise.

Jana Sena Party candidate in Andhra Pradesh has been arrested after he damaged an EVM. The accused, Madhusudan Gupta, threw the EVM on the floor at a polling station in the Guntakal Assembly constituency of Anantapur district, the police said. Gupta, who had come to cast his vote at the polling station in Gutti, was angry with the polling staff over names of Assembly and Parliament constituencies not being displayed properly. The machine was damaged in the incident. Gupta was immediately arrested.
