New Delhi:

Aparna Yadav, the younger daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Sambhal seat in Uttar Pradesh on Samajwadi Party ticket, according to sources. Aparna had fought on SP ticket in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections but had lost to BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Besides Mulayam, the then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, his wife Dimple Yadav had also campaigned on the Lucknow Cantt seat for Aparna but all their efforts went in vain with people selecting the BJP candidate.

She supported Akhilesh Yadav's uncle Shivpal Yadav who, after a major falling out with the former UP chief minister, quit the Samajwadi Party.

Recently, she termed the Samajwadi Party's alliance with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party as a major political development.

"It is a very big political development. Its outcome and public mandate will be only clear in future after the 2019 election. In a democracy, the public is everything, they understand everything very well and they will have the last say," Aparna had said.

She had, however, objected to Mayawati 's remark that Shivpal Singh Yadav's party is funded by the BJP as a part of an alleged conspiracy to divide votes.

Aparna, who is married to Mulayam Singh's son Prateek, had earlier said she would be contesting the 2019 elections from Shivpal Singh's Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL).
