BJP leader Subramanian Swamy is known for making controversial remarks. So it came as no surprise when he made some sensational remarks about the Gandhi family during the News Nation Conclave. In a no-holds-barred conversation with News Nation’s Ajay Kumar, Swamy spoke on range of issues including the topic closest to any BJP leader’s heart — Ram Mandir. Swamy promised that the construction of Ram temple will begin in July this year if the BJP is voted to power. He hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being the most secular and liberal leader in the RSS setup.

He claimed that if the pro-temple people start working on the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Mandir, nobody, not even the Supreme Court can object to it. Later, the session veered to the Gandhis and Swamy claimed that they are Christians and that they pray at the chapel constructed within their houses. When asked about ‘janeyudhari’ Rahul Gandhi, Swamy claimed that the Congress president is a biggest liar, who holds four international passports. The BJP lawmaker said that the Gandhis sport Rudraksha just for ‘dikhava’ (show).

Swamy’s fight against Sonia Gandhi and her Cambridge diploma is widely known. Swamy attempted to prove in court that Sonia Gandhi had lied in her election affidavit about her educational qualifications. Later, officials at 10 Janpath had said Sonia Gandhi had acquired a diploma in English from Cambridge but not from the university. The word "university" in the Lok Sabha publication was a "typographical error", they had said.

Swamy spoke about this entire issue in detail and said that Sonia Gandhi must be conferred with the Guinness Record for ‘longest typographical error’ in the world.

In the election year, Ayodhya is one the key issues in the Hindi heartland. Uttar Pradesh – the politically-sensitive state which sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha – will go to polls in seven phases starting April 11, the Election Commission announced on Sunday. Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
